New littleroots on the way After neglecting the website for most of this year, littleroots will be back soon with a new look and hopefully a up to date gig guide! Send in your news and the best will be featured on the site.

Al Fleming has been playing, writing and recording for over three decades. The singer with legendary Scottish band The Bears currently supplies vocals and guitar for the long running blues jam at Glasgow's State Bar. A collection of his original work can be heard at his website and myspace pages.

Eclectic blues band The Adjournments have been around for a little while now. The Glasgow based 5 piece "throw everything we can think of into the stuff we do" and have just released a 6 track mini album, "Allegedly..." which is available from their main website, www.adjournments.co.uk. Listen to MP3 samples at www.myspace.com/adjournments.

Rustbelt Sun is the latest CD from God Fearing Atheists. An impressive debut that wears the band's influences (Jayhawks, Uncle Tupelo, early REM etc) on its sleeve. No bad thing either and our thoughts are echoed by reviews in Americana UK, The List, The Daily Record and more. Read more at their website and the obligatory myspace page.

Blues Buddahs no more!
The Blues Buddahs have regretfully announced that they have called it a day.
The Buddahs, a 4 piece electric blues band from Glasgow, were formed in 1999 and played live all over Scotland including several appearances at blues & jazz festivals in Glasgow, Arbroath, Dundee, Callander and the  Borders. The band were best known for their 60s British blues boom style, circa John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, and Blues Matters! magazine said singer Dennis Smalley, a Jack Bruce sound-a-like, was "Scottish blues best kept secret". The band have released a commemorative 2 CD album, featuring previously unheard studio tracks from past albums and a "best of live" with other rarities. The album, entitled "We're Going Wrong", features a massive 30 tracks of pure "Buddahlisation" and can be purchased for £10.00 from Lost in Music, deCourcey's Arcade, Cresswell Lane, Hillhead, Glasgow, G11 8AA, 0141 339 8155 (Ask for Dennis!) or you can arrange for a copy to be posted by emailing the band at thebluesbuddahs@hotmail.com.

Texas Exile Radio is a non-commercial webcast station, broadcasting an eclectic mix of country music, mostly indie stuff outside the top 40, with some classic tracks thrown in. Based in South Wales and run by an expatriate Texan they play a wide variety of country and americana and the playlists lean quite heavily towards Alt-country, Texas country, and Red Dirt. The target audience is people who want the 'roots music' feel and love a bit of twang, but also enjoy progressive approaches. Sounds right up our street!

The Austins are a reasonably new sound out of Glasgow. Founded in summer 2006, the band comprises Sharon Duncan on vocals, Iain Wright on lead guitar, John Hanley on rhythm guitar, Sandy Mercer on bass guitar and John Dick on drums. Originally formed with a view to covering songs by those artists we loved, Neil Young, The Jayhawks and Lucinda Williams etc. they soon progressed to writing their own material.

A three track demo was recorded with Andy Miller at Chem19 studios in Hamilton in February 2007 and the band now has more than an albums’ worth of original material.

Playing live has been a crucial part of developing The Austins sound. Starting off with various open mic nights across Glasgow they have also played at a number of venues including private functions, The Halt bar, The Phoenix bar and most recently a sold out performance at The Vale bar in the City Centre. Response to their live shows has been very positive and their music appeals to a broad spectrum of people.

The CitySinners have found their new female vocalist! Scots Canadian Sandra Gellatly is currently in rehearsals with the band and indeed a cut down version of the band (John, Sandra and Tim) played a short support slot at Glasgow's Star folk club the other week. The performance was well received and augers well for the future.

Last year we played at St Andrew's in the Square Glasgow, The Bein Inn, Harbour Arts Irvine, Stirling Tolbooth and The Lemon Tree in Aberdeen amongst others. Click here for more info and to download bios, photos and press pack.
Why did no one think of this before? This site does exactly what it says on the tin. www.pubjamsessions.com lists blues and rock jam sessions around the country. If your favourite is missing, tell them, not us.
Alasdair Robertson, longtime friend of  littleroots and contributor to 'holler til dawn', has a new CD available. "Confessions of a Justified Singer" is the result of a collaboration between Alasdair and ex Lloyd Cole man Blair Cowan. The CD has already had several good reviews and you can judge for yourself
at www.justifiedsinger.com.

the hat

Dave's got a new hat! Dave took time out on a recent US trip to buy himself a new hat. Watch this space for more on his Stateside adventures.

White Street is an eclectic group of musicians formed around a nucleus of Glasgow writers. I've updated some of the biogs  so you can now read more about the group no longer known as Mrs Patterson's Celidh Band. The White Street Band's self titled CD is now available. Click here for more information.

Troubadour Folk Instruments - Value for money Rumanian made folk instruments. The proprietor is very upfront about these instruments including their (slight) shortcomings. I've just bought one of their bouzoukis and a small mandolin. Very good they are too.
Don't forget to check out the local talent, musicians and artists listed on our artists page
